Privacy Policy — Doc Voice Reader
Effective date: June 23, 2026
Doc Voice Reader ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that reads the text of your current
Google Doc aloud using the ElevenLabs text-to-speech service. This policy explains what data the
extension handles and how.
What the extension accesses
- Google Doc text / copied selection. When you click "Read whole doc," the
extension fetches the text of the Google Doc open in your active tab. When you click "Read
selection," it reads text you have copied to your clipboard. This text is used solely to
generate speech audio for you.
- ElevenLabs API key. You provide your own ElevenLabs API key. It is stored
locally in your browser (
chrome.storage.local) and is sent only to ElevenLabs to
authenticate text-to-speech requests.
- Your settings. Your selected voice and model are stored locally in your
browser.
How data is used and shared
- Document/selection text and your API key are transmitted directly from your browser to
ElevenLabs (
https://api.elevenlabs.io) for the sole purpose of
generating speech audio. ElevenLabs' handling of that data is governed by the
ElevenLabs Privacy Policy.
- The extension does not send your data to the developer or to any other
third party.
- The developer operates no servers and does not collect,
store, log, or sell any of your data.
- The extension uses no analytics or tracking.
Data storage and retention
- Your API key and settings remain in your browser's local storage until you remove them or
uninstall the extension.
- Document text is processed in memory to produce audio and is not persisted by the
extension.
Your choices
You can clear your stored API key and settings at any time by editing them in the popup or by
uninstalling the extension.
